£Jack Benting and his two old friends Michael Woodward and Andy Mackewon were sitting in a hotel in Singapore. They were formerly سابقا of the police in Asian countries.
£Jack Benting believed that the ability to act quickly and to take quick decisions is the most important quality صفة of a policeman. He began to tell them his story which had nothing to do with crime ليس لها دخل بالجريمة.
£The story happened before he joined the Indian police. He finished his police college and applied for a job. He read an advertisement in which a young man with cool head was wanted مطلوب شاب رابط الجأشfor unusual work غير عادى.
£Benting met the employer Van Lutjens who was a Dutchman. He was one of the leading diamond تجار الماس merchants in Amsterdam.
£Van would travel to New York on board a ship called تسمى "Berngaria" he would have the two "Rozelles" earrings with him. They were two well-matched diamonds that he got from a royal family. He would show them to a group of American diamond buyers مشترونin New York.
£Van wanted Benting to watch over the diamonds. Benting accepted the job although it sounded dull. The salary was very high. It was equivalent to يعادل a year ُ s salary مرتب سنة in the Indian police.
£The next evening they began the voyage. Van put the two rozelles in a small box and put it in a leather case that he brought from the office of the hotel manager. Van showed Benting the two rozelles with their pink colour.
£On board the ship Van kept the leather case in the ship ُ s safe. Benting wondered تساءل why he was paid so much money. He was just sharing يشارك Van his meals and playing cards.
£The first two days were very quiet. On the third day Van grew more restless. He brought the two Rozelles that he called his children. They had never left him since he bought them months ago.
£Van said the two diamonds were the greatest discovery of his life. They were cut by the greatest diamond cutter of all the times Frans Van Meulen. His stones weren’t for ordinary people but for royal families عائلات ملكية.

£In spite of Benting disapproval رفض, Van opened the box to have a look at the stones. Benting was caring for the people around them.
£On the forth day, Van brought the leather case. There was a strong wind and the sea was rough هائج. He went to the side of the ship and took out the small box. Before opening it, the ship gave a sudden roll هزةthat threw ألقتVan out of his chair, he dropped the box and it fell into the sea.
£Benting asked his friends what they would have done. Woodward said he would tell the captain but the ship would have been two miles away. The captain would refuse to look for a little box in a rough sea.
£Mackeown suggested swimming into the sea but he would have never found the box if he had done this. When the box fell into the sea, Benting quickly threw ألقىa table and two chairs into the sea. He easily persuaded اقنعthe captain to go back to that spot مكانto get back the little box.
£Woodward praised Benting for his quick thinking. He believed the Dutchman paid دفعBenting extra money but he didn’t. Van died of heart failure أزمة قلبية when he saw the little box going down into the sea.
